Clone

Overview

/clone duplicates a channel or a role inside the server you run it in, with its permissions. To copy a whole server, run /backup create on the original and /backup load on the target.

Use it when you want another channel set up the way an existing one is, or a second role with the same permissions as one you already trust.

Cloning a channel

Create a copy of a channel, including its permission overwrites. When you clone a category, you can bring its child channels along too.

/clone channel channel child_channels name count

channel required

The channel you want to clone.

child_channels optional

Whether to also clone the channels inside it. Only has an effect when the channel is a category.

name optional

A name for the copy. Without it the copy keeps the original’s name.

count optional

How many copies to make, up to 10. Each one gets the same name.

Cloning a role

Create a copy of a role. The new role gets the original’s permissions. It can also take the original’s per-channel overwrites.

/clone role role apply_overwrites name count

role required

The role you want to clone.

apply_overwrites optional

Whether to give the new role the same per-channel permission overwrites as the original. Without this the clone only gets the original’s server-wide permissions.

Note

Cloning a role counts against Discord’s role creation limit, which is 250 per server every 48 hours. See Role creation cooldown.
